Mail d'un groupe américain au sujet du cat's claw versus samento:
"Cats claw will be the whole herb in non standardised form, including
the TOAs. Standardised is when certain marker chemicals in the herb
(there can be lots of natural chemical molecules in a plant) are
guaranteed to be at a certain level in the herbal preparation. This is
done by certain processing methods. In nature, the plant will have
variable levels of chemicals, depending on the soil it grows in, time
of year etc. Samento is a trade name for standardised cats claw, which
has had the TOA chemicals removed (tetraaclyclic oxindole alkaloids).
This is interesting because the accepted opinion on this is that the
TOAs inactivate POAs (pentacyclic oxidole alkalids). There is an
interesting discussion of all this in stephen buhners book. In
indigenous peoples, the plant with the most POAs is harvested for
making medicine, but it contains both POAs and TOAs, and has long been
used to enhance immune activity. Its worth remembering also that plant
extracts using the whole herb, can't be patented, so can't make a
company lots of money. Only processes can be patented."
